Hi Reader, Welcome to Rev up for the week, where every Sunday I send you a thought to help kick start your week. I'm feeling majorly overloaded at the moment. Perhaps you are too? My son is in the middle of the long transition to a new school starting in September (he has additional needs so the transition takes a lot longer than for most), I'm selling my old house and have been up and down the steps to my loft too many times, I've got some big plans for 6 Weeks to Ninja later in the year, some big client projects coming up this week, I'm about to host my whole family in a couple of weekends' time... It's a lot. But here's what I know. It's possible to be completely overloaded without feeling overwhelmed. How? It starts by getting it all out of your head. For many years, I've kept everything I'm committed to (yes, everything) in a "second brain". I use Todoist, but the tool itself isn't that important. The idea is that by breaking down everything to the brass tacks of projects and actions, it's possible to manage through times of huge challenges and complexity without all the stress. I've been working like this for years, and I can tell you it works! I've been feeling overloaded - and yes, a bit overwhelmed - this weekend. But luckily I know exactly what I need to do to start feeling more in control. I need to spend some time updating my second brain, making decisions, and getting some clarity. When it starts to feel like there's a hundred things tugging away on my brain, I know spending a bit of time in "boss mode" (doing some quality thinking), is all I need to start feeling in control, even at times when life is very full and I'm overloaded. So this week, after a week or so letting the 'Productivity Ninja' systems slip a little bit, I'll be jumping back in and getting my second brain back up to date - and from many years in the game, I already know that getting this perspective will will lower my overwhelm and get me feeling excited about what's next again. So this week, if you're feeling a bit overwhelmed, start by...
It's in this thinking that we find clarity, lower stress levels and start to get things back under control. Have a great week, Graham PS - If you want this stress-busting clarity for your team, my company Think Productive runs practical workshops in the Productivity Ninja methodology, and you'd be amazed at the sense of purpose and momentum it can bring to your team. |
Join thousands of people starting their week on a positive note. Every Sunday afternoon, I send out an upbeat idea to set you up for the week ahead.
Hi Reader, What if today, you resolved to get 1% better at something? Maybe a core work skill, maybe learning a language, physical fitness... You choose. And then what if tomorrow you made that same resolution, to make a 1% improvement again? All of us have the opportunity to improve. We can learn new techniques, seek feedback and tweak our approaches, stick on a YouTube video, or go to a workshop that opens up more possibilities. It's easier to make small, continuous improvements than to go...
Hi Reader, Welcome to Rev Up for the Week, where every Sunday I send you a thought to kick-start Monday. Over the last week, I've been thinking a lot about values. I've been priviliged to be working with the team at Oliver Bonas over the last couple of months, delivering a couple of keynotes to help them relaunch their organisational values. Oliver Bonas's values are also a piece of wall-art that they sell in their stores, which makes it super-easy for the staff to remember them: Work Hard...
Hi Reader, Welcome to Rev Up for the Week, where each Sunday I send you a simple thought to supercharge the week ahead. I've been out doing client keynotes this week, sharing some of the ideas from 'KIND'. One thing that's started a lot of conversations is the idea of abundance, and more specifically, abundance vs scarcity. I want to share this with you. What I'm about to share, I believe with all of my soul, but I also know that part of our brain deeply rejects it. What can be objectively...
